Convalescing Soldiers' Jottings

This album of autographs was compiled by Jeannie L Daniel who was possibly a nurse at Oldmill Hospital (later called Woodend) in Aberdeen. This surviving artefact is a touching memento of wartime. It tells us about life in the First World War through these poignant images.

The recuperating soldiers at the hospital wrote poetry, drew cartoons and sketches in Jeannie's autograph book which probably helped relieve some of the tedium associated with long-term hospital care.
